Geography

At Weedon Bec, we aim for the Geography curriculum to inspire pupils with a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We offer a structure and sequence of lessons to help teachers ensure they have covered the skills required to meet the aims of the national curriculum. Geography across the school is divided into strands of learning, whereby each year group covers the same overarching strand at the same time to highlight progression and links. Teaching should provide pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments. The lessons are intended to improve children’s geographical vocabulary, map skills and geographical knowledge and provide opportunities for consolidation and challenge to ensure interest and progress in the subject.

Geographical knowledge and skills are progressive and are transferable to other curriculum areas. Where possible, we will promote links to their moral, social and cultural development. Geography is, by nature, an investigative subject which develops a desire to explore the world around them. It gives the children the information they need to make a difference and aspire to improve the world around them.
