Art
At Weedon Bec, we believe that art gives children an opportunity to be inventive and engages them in a process that helps to develop self esteem, self discipline, individuality and self expression. The skills children learn in Art are both transferrable and open ended. There is no right or wrong way, and opens up a path of success for those that find core subjects more difficult. Our intent is that children develop a love and passion for Art. Through self belief and nurturing expression, everybody is able to succeed and feel pride. By the time children leave Weedon Bec our children will become confident and proficient in a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, sculpting, as well as other selected craft skills. Children will also develop their knowledge of famous artists, designers and craft makers and be able to express themselves through a rich range of mediums and genres.
We have recognised that the teaching of art skills needs to be developed. We aim to ensure skill progression is taught discretely across all year groups and is taught, practised and applied in order for children to have the opportunity to reach their full potential. At Weedon Bec we value the role of art in developing and nourishing children, and intend that this message is transparent across the board of teachers, pupils and families.
During an initial interview with children the following points were noted:
-
A mixed approach across the school to taught Art lessons.
-
The children enjoy art and most wish they could do more.
-
Most children believed art was not something that you could be taught.
-
Generally the children believed art would be improved with more resources available
We intend to strive for excellence and innovation by being exciting, inspiring and engaging. We aim to provide a positive and inclusive experience that enables personal progression and helps to develop a sense of belonging and ownership.
